An MRI of the brain will look for structural changes, such as tumors, inflammation, infection, vascular disease or other structural abnormalities. Will my dog be placed under anesthesia? Yes.  Successful scans require the patient to remain still during the scan.  While there is some risk anytime anesthesia is used, your pet will be closely monitored throughout the scan by our medical team.     How long does a scan take? Using state-of-the-art technology, we can often scan your dog's brain in under 20 minutes.  That means less time under anesthesia, a quicker recovery and greater safety for your pet. Does my vet need to refer my dog? No.  You can fill out a [Pet Owners Referral](https://www.vetoutpatientmri.com/pet-owner-referral-form?hsLang=en) and we will gather records.  We do require recent bloodwork prior to anesthesia.  We will advise you on this once we review your pet's records. Will My Neurologist Accept Your MRI?
